A fine Italian late 19th century "Belle Époque" carved marble figure of a young bather. The seated young girl wearing a form-fitting one-piece tank suit, holding a hand fan, and seated on a rock form by the sea shore, her feet intruding into the breaking waves. Unsigned, circa 1900. Measures: Height 41 1/4 inches (104.8 cm) Width 22 1/2 inches (57.2 cm) Depth 19 1/4 inches (48.9 cm)

    Repaired: Her right hand, fingers and the fan's handle have had professional restorations, the sculpture has been washed and cleaned. The bottom edge chipping have been partially sanded and touched up. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Minor fading. A truly beautiful sculpture, great for a beach house. Overall condition is good, weathered but professionally cleaned and restored. Some age spotting and minor chips, base edge chippings. Restoration on right hand fingers and the fan's handle. As Is.

Together with his brother, Niccolò Bazzanti (Firenze, 1802-1869) who was also a sculptor, they both worked the sprawling Florentine studio 'Pietro Bazzanti e Figlio' a hugely successful sculpture studio, operated within the family at their gallery on Lungarno Corsini until the mid-twentieth century.
