French Empire Period Figural Thermometer

About the Item

A very fine antique French Empire period figural thermometer of patinated bronze, ormolu and rouge marble. The rectangular red marble base with four ormolu winged paw feet. The figure of Sapho to the right of the thermometer is beautifully cast and finished and has an ormolu lyre in her hand. The thermometer column has an ormolu base with stiff leaf moulding and similar decoration surrounding the scale. The column is surmounted by a laurel wreath and a trumpet.
