French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Ormolu Statue of Two Maidens, Signed Moreau

About the Item

A beautiful and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI st. ormolu statue of two beautiful maidens signed Moreau. The statue is raised by a fine circular mottled base with an outstanding ground design. Above are two lovely young maidens draped in intricately detailed and wonderfully executed dresses. One of the maidens holds a woven basket with freshly cut flowers while the others arm. Their charming hair is blowing in the wind and each display beautiful expressions. Wonderful proportions and attention to detail throughout.

    French late 19th century spelter sculpture by Hippolyte Moreau fitted with original 1 7/8" thick rouge griotte marble base. Hippolyte was one of the famous Moreau brothers, all of whom were sculptors. He was born in Dijon France in 1832 and died in 1927. This statue, in a warm chocolate brown patina depicts a diaphanously dressed woman with flowing scarf overhead and winged cherob at her side resting on the crest of a wave and shell.
