French 19th Century Louis XVI Style Ormolu and Patinated Bronze Statue

A striking and high quality French 19th century Louis XVI style ormolu and patinated bronze statue, signed E. Laurent. The statue is raised by an elegant oblong shaped ormolu base with a fine mottled border. Above is a beautiful maiden kneeling on a wonderfully executed ground designed base with a bundle of wheat sprigs at her side and scattered wheat. She is draped in a fine flowing robe and holds a sickle in her left hand and is rescuing a fallen bird with her other hand.
Elie-Joseph Laurent painter and sculptor born in Lyon France. He was a student at L'ecole des Beaux-Arts de Lyon. He started exhibiting in the Salon in 1870 and became recognized by the Society of the French Artists in 1899. Some of his works are displayed in the Museum of Lyon, France.
