Ceramic terracotta hand painted sculpture "Bird" by Jules Agard, 1950s
Jules Agard (1905-1986) was a French ceramist who was already a renowned potter in Vallauris when Suzanne Ramié founded Madoura whom he joined to become the technical director. Naturally, when she invited Picasso to Vallauris and offered to use the Madoura studio, Jules Agard was the one who formed the pots for Picasso to paint. He is mostly known for being the skilled co-worker, but Agard was also an artist in his own right: a painter and a ceramist.
