Art Deco Alabaster Sculpture The Samaritan Woman

About the Item

This Art Deco sculpture captures the Samaritan woman wearing a tunic draped about her body, carrying the jug. Her hair pulled up in a bun, is supported by a diadem. Carved from alabaster, the statue is a beautiful example of Classical style. The standing figure, in contrapposto position, is set upon a square base featuring canted edges. Signed on the base: J. Espasa. Circa :1930 Dim: W: 8,3 in - D: 8,3in - H: 29,9in. Dim: L: 21cm, P: 21cm, H: 76cm.

    Art Deco sculpture in white marble representing a reclining odalisque, leaning on a cushion and holding a fan. The headdress is stylized, topped by a headband in the fashion of the 1930s and holds short, curly hair. The work on the face is fine and the look is accentuated by hollowed out almond-shaped eyes. The body is sculpted in the antique style and slightly androgynous. The young woman rests on a white marble base carved in the manner of a Turkish carpet, revealing geometric and floral motifs.
