19th Century French Bronze Sculpture "Gloire Et Fortune" Signed E. Picault

Decorate a gentleman's study with this fine bronze figure. Sculpted in France, circa 1880 and is titled "Gloire Et Fortune" (Glory and Fortune), the antique sculpture depicts a gentleman standing draped in clothing around his waist; his left hand inside a side purse that is hanging from an ornate belt, and his right hand is raised up. The young man is standing over corn husks, a compass, a Hammer and drapery inscribed "per laborem" (through labor). The man sculpture is in excellent condition and has a beautiful patinated finish. The work of art is stamped on the back "Paris Vrai Bronze Garanti." and has very Fine details throughout the composition. Emile Louis Picault (1833-1915) was a pupil of the painter Henri Royer. Between 1863 and 1914 he exhibited at the salon in Paris. His bronze sculptures earned him major success. His oeuvre is characterized by allegorical or patriotic themes and figures of warriors and mythological heroes. In addition, he has also created busts of historical or literary figures, such as Joan of Arc, Voltaire or even Macbeth. Picault is considered one of the most prolific French sculptors of his time.
