Antique Italian Marble Bust by Aristide Petrilli



Exquisitely rendered Carrara marble bust of a young Florentine nobleman by Aristide Petrilli. Signed in verso: 'Gall Prof Petrilli, Firenze.' Aristide Petrilli, born in Tivoli, Lazio in 1868, studied sculpture at the Art Institute of Florence, as well as the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze. After further training under the accomplished Raffaello Romanelli, Petrilli opened his own studio in Florence where he created varied works including many historical depictions in the classical style. Celebrated worldwide, Petrilli exhibited a romantic portrait of Joan D'Arc at the Paris World's fair in 1900, as well as "Wrestling Bacchantes" at the Louisiana Purchase Exposition (St. Louis World's Fair) in 1904.
