"Striped Black Rooster," Large, Rare Art Deco Sculpture by Waylande Gregory

US$4,200

About

Striking and bold, this rare and large ceramic sculpture by Waylande Gregory depicts a rooster with striped body and dotted wings, in tones of black and charcoal with touches of white. Gregory was a renowned WPA sculptor and innovative ceramicist, and produced a wide range of sculptures and wares in ceramic beginning in his college days, through his years working with Lorado Taft and later when he created large multi-figure pieces for WPA projects, institutions and public parks. A major retrospective of Gregory's work was recently organized by the University of Richmond's Museums.
