19th Century Dutch Delft Blue / White Lion Sculpture Decorative Piece
By Delft
Located in Tarry Town, NY
Transport yourself to the elegance of the early 19th century with this exceptional Dutch Delft sculpture—an enchanting portrayal of a lion proudly cradling a family shield crest. Crafted with meticulous artistry, the lion captivates with its exuberant mane, sitting majestically on its haunches, and a gracefully curled tail draping over its hind quarters. The sculpture is further adorned with an armorial cartouche, held with regal poise beneath the lion's paw. Set upon an oval geometric base, this masterpiece stands at an impressive 17 inches in height, boasting dimensions of 11 1/2 inches in width and 9.4 inches in depth. The harmonious blend of form and function in this Delft blue and white sculpture...

Antique Wall / Corner Coat Rack w Carved Rams & Embossed Leather by M.J. Slager
Located in Lisse, NL
Unique and highly decorative, work of art coat rack. When we find an antique that is this good in terms of its design AND in terms of the quality of the workmanship then the first thing we do is to look for a signature. And we were really (and pleasantly) surprised to find the signature of MJ Slager in the far right, bottom corner. Only once before have we seen and owned and sold another stunning antique by this highly skilled artist. And when you realize that there have never been any other pieces of this artist available on the internet anywhere (apart from the stunning folding screen that we sold via 1stdibs and that you can see in image 19 of this listing) then you will understand how special it was for us that this coat rack by MJ Slager too landed on our path. Thinking of the odds of this happening, we can only describe it as a blessing. Like we described in that previous listing: when you look at the beauty, the detail and the overal workmanship it is unbelievable that such a skilled artist did not go on and have a bigger career. As more often has been the case here in Holland, maybe the first world war had something to do with it. So this antique coat rack is unique for more reasons than one, but one of them is the design. Antique corner coat racks...

Fine Taxidermy Kea by Sinke & Van Tongeren
By Sinke & Van Tongeren
Located in Haarlem, NL
The Kea (Nestor notabilis) is a species of large parrot found in the forested and alpine regions of the South Island of New Zealand. Known for attacking livestock, especially sheep. There are also anecdotal reports of kea attacking rabbits, dogs, and even horses. There are also suggestions that kea used to feed on moa in a similar way. It all sounds brutal yet if looks beautiful. With its mostly olive-green plumage with orange feathers on the undersides of its wings. The outer wing are a dull-blu. It sits on top of a green marble ornament and under a large antique glass dome...

Fine Taxidermy Duyvenbode's Lory by Sinke & Van Tongeren
By Sinke & Van Tongeren
Located in Haarlem, NL
The Duyvenbode’s Lory (Chalcopsitta duivenbodei) is found in northern New Guinea. Named after Maarten Dirk van Renesse van Duivenbode (June 2, 1804 – March 31, 1878) who was a Dutch merchant, trader of bird skins for fashion and naturalia. The colour palette of this bird is very special. Almost bronze like. A great match with the antique velvet base. Note: All animals used for their work came from captivity and died on natural causes. No animals are raised or killed for their work. The works of Dutch Artists Sinke and van Tongeren are inspired by golden age old master painters...

Fine Taxidermy Hamerkop by Sinke & Van Tongeren
By Sinke & Van Tongeren
Located in Haarlem, NL
Hammerhead (Scopus umbretta) is a medium sized wading bird. The shape of his head with a long bill and crest at the back looks like a hammer. This gave the species its name after the Afrikaans word for hammerhead ‘Hamerkop’. We sculpted this Hamerkop in a very gracious and friendly pose. Its base is tailor made with antique wood and velvet. Housend under an antique 19th century glass dome...

Antique Arts & Crafts Wall Coat Rack w. Inlaid Komodo Dragon & Ancient Fish
Located in Lisse, NL
One of a kind coatrack with inlaid geometrical patterns and unique animal 'sculptures'. With the Arts & Crafts era being one of our favourites, we are always thrilled to find antiques from that era. Especially ones that we have never seen before and that we never expect to see again. We could not be more thrilled to find this unique and pure Dutch Arts and Crafts coat rack and the fact that it is in such amazing condition made us even happier. Finding top quality antiques in this incredibly condition is getting ever harder. This large size but undeep coat rack has an amazing patina, it comes with a set of four perfect brass hooks and several smaller ones as well. They all have the perfect patina and the circular mirror too is the original one and certainly in good enough condtion for you to check your good looks before leaving. However, what makes this remarkable Arts and Crafts work of beauty stand out from anything we ever saw is the combination of geometrical inlays and the unique animal 'sculptures'. Around the turn of the century (so between 1890 and 1910) many Europeans first started to learn about exotic animals in countries far away. The artisan whom created this work of art coat rack must have heard about or seen a first photo of a komodo dragon...

'Quoting Charles Darwin I' a Fine Taxidermy Tableaux by Sinke & Van Tongeren
By Sinke & Van Tongeren
Located in Haarlem, NL
This monumental work is inspired on the famous quote of Darwin. “If everyone were cast in the same mould, there would be no such thing as beauty.” It is because of this quote that we added Darwin to our name Darwin, Sinke & van Tongeren. This quote also fits our goal to do all our taxidermy work without the use of factory moulds that are typical for contemporary taxidermy. We sculpt all our bodies by hand and therefor can create the unique poses like how they line up in this mayor work. We combined many different birds with many different features from many different points of the compass. Together they form a 17th Century like composition of colours and poses. This collection varies from the rare African Congo Peafowl and a gracious Stanley Crane to a regular Dutch chicken. Quoting Charles Darwin...
