Large Bronze Group of Four Bears-Anton Buschelberger, 1920

Large animalier sculpture of four bears lumbering playfully on tree branches by Anton Buschelberger, 1869-1934. Delightfully sportive and lively, this study portrays a realistic familial natural scene of bear cubs with mother and father. The bronze statue has a deep dark brown/ black patina and is finely finished overall. This model with the four bears is rare. The more common models have either one single bear or only three bears. Signed under the base. Perfect for either a country house, a hunting lodge, an Aspen chalet or a NY cityscape apartment. Buschelberger comes from a family of artists. His father was a sculptor. Like Rembrandt Bugatti who visually captured his models from the Antwerp zoo, Buschelberger used the Dresden Zoo as his school. He studied the animals intensely and filled countless sketch books with designs for his bronze sculptures. work of art, animal sculptures, garden ornament, decoration, English manor, country home, art.
