Large 17th Century Wood Carved hanging Italian Eagle or Bird of Prey Sculpture
About the Item
This is a very rare large antique hand carved, polychromed and gilt eagle.
Unbelievable workmanship went into making this wooden bird of prey sculpture with spread wings.
Maybe it used to be part of a larger presentation, probably in a church, but now this also looks mythical hanging by it's own.
Look at the amazing detail in the feathers, the gessoed polychrome hand carved wood and it's gilt feet and beak.
This bird embodies cosmic power in all traditions, having absolute dominance of the air.
It hangs from a hook in it's back, could be mounted on the wall, but it sure looks more impressive hanging from a ceiling.
The spread wings measure 180 cm (70.9 inch)
