About

A French Choisy-le-Roi glazed majolica rooster from the late 19th century signed Louis-Robert Carrier-Belleuse. Born in France during the later years of the 19th century, this monumental rooster captures our attention with its exquisite polychromy and skillful depiction. Modeled by artist Louis-Robert Carrier-Belleuse (son and pupil of famous sculptor Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse) for the Choisy-le-Roi factory and signed on one of the sides, this majolica sculpture depicts the French emblem, a rooster, standing proudly on his feet on a grass-style base, his beak open to crow. The rectangular vase behind him provides additional support. With its vivid polychromy and nice proportions, this 1880s Carrier-Belleuse rooster, marked Choisy HB (for Hippolyte Boulenger) on the underside, will be a wonderful decorative item for any home. The base is 12 x 8 inches.
