17th Century Religious Figure

About the Item

Beautifully carved and painted polychromatic religious figure that resembles St. Francis. Right hand is missing. Figure is bearded and is wearing a monk's cloak. St. Francis is the founder of the Franciscan order. He was born at Assisi, in central Italy, in 1182 and is one of the patron saints of Italy. This figure is standing on a mound that looks like a rock.

    Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. Good. Paint is faded and there are splits in the wood, both characteristic of the age of the piece. His right hand is missing.
