Black Ceramic TOTEM Trio, 3 Hand Built Sculptures, Rings on Arc'd Legs
About the Item
A trio of 3 hand built ceramic Modern TOTEMs from a series investigating the Totemic form. Each one is different, a soft rectangle, an oval and a circular ring on arcing legs. The satin black glaze on high-fire stoneware shows the variations, speckling and pitting resultant from a Cone 10 reduction firing in a gas kiln. These types of firings are known to create unique glaze surfaces due to the creative mixing of gas and oxygen during a process which can last up to 24 hours. Dimensions given below are for the smallest piece. The largest piece is approximately 2 inches taller.

Helena Starcevic Ceramics produces work that straddles the line between fine and decorative art. Each piece is one of a kind, hand-built entirely by the artist in her New York studio. Taking inspiration from the natural world, Ms. Starcevic's work includes references to the stark beauty of the desert, prehistoric cave paintings, and the human form (within and without). Everything is filtered through Ms. Starcevic’s own singular aesthetic, at once quiet yet strong, meditative, and beautiful. Pieces are made in different clays and finishes, and at different scales. Groupings are available. Helena Starcevic’s ceramic pieces are held in private collections across the US and Europe. She has held numerous residencies including one at the Museum of Art and Design in New York City.
