About the Item
Bauden Khoreay's large frontally carved stone sculpture of a stylized owl.
The sculpture is in the manner of Picasso's early opium influenced African based cubist motifs.
Professionally mounted on a green black granite base.
Biography:
Bauden Khoreay: born in 1948 in Cholo, Malawi. Bauden Khoreay's works hold kinship in the roots of world renowned African artist Tengenenges. Following in the footsteps of the great master Tengenenges, Bauden became one of the most significant sculptures of the 1st generation to follow in the 1960s. Inspired by the spiritual impressions from African myths and legends, Bauden Khorea's sculptured pieces continue to celebrate tradition among the culture unique to he and his country of origin. Bauden Khorea's works are both a testament to his artistic skill while giving voice to the importance of his African culture and tradition.
The incised signature BAUDEN is on the underside of the sculpture.
The sculpture is in excellent condition as photographed.
