Machine Age Art Deco Gustav Jensen Streamline Phenolic Vanity Set by Dupont

US$6,500per set

About

Machine Age Art Deco Gustav Jensen Streamline Phenolic Vanity Set by Dupont Important streamline Art Deco design in "Pyralin," circa 1931 by Jensen for Dupont. Contemporary with Paul Frankl's "Amerith" line for the Celluloid Corp. All are proprietary alternate phenolics to bakelite, catalin, etc. The split black and cream concept employed here by Jensen, was an attempt for DuPont to market the expensive ebony and ivory experience of the day to stylish modern housewives for everyday use. The addition of classic deco speed lines, a further stylistic embellishment. Four-piece matching set, plus the ultra rare brush in aqua/mint. Virtually unused condition, signed. See the Yale University on-line collection and "A Modern World", page 92, for examples.
