French Louis XVI Carved Giltwood Mercury Barometer

Louis XVI carved giltwood and painted mercury wheel barometer.
Eight inch circular painted wood register dial with central rosette within the scale calibrated from 27-28-29 and with seven weather indications, signed ‘Bertrand, Optician, St. Denis’ with blued steel pointer.
Moulded giltwood glazed bezel beneath a centrally mounted spirit thermometer.
Leaf carved moulded surround, applied to the lyre shaped trunk with gilt ribbon crest, laurel swags and pendants and acanthus side scrolls to the waist, the base terminating with a leaf craved panel, circa 1780.
