George II Thomas Haley Green Chinoiserie Long Case Clock, circa 1740

A fine circa 1740 clock by Thomas Haley of North Walsham, an eight day chinoiserie decorated long case clock, the moon faced dial with subsidiary second and date dial, Roman numerals, the green painted chinoiserie and brass inlaid case with three-quarter pilaster hood, waisted body with pagoda and landscape scenes. Beautifully faded and in very much country house condition, some internal repairs and replacements to the back. The mechanism has been fully restored to an exceptional standard and the clock chimes and works perfectly. Haley, Thomas of North Walsingham, Norwich and London. This maker was at Market Place, North Walsingham sometime before 1743. He gained his freedom to work as a clockmaker in Norwich in September 1746 and acquired premises in Dove Lane, Norwich in July 1748 and in September 1751 his son John was apprenticed to him for 7 years and a fee of 5 shillings. He sold off his stock in March 1753 ready for his move to Cold Bath Fields, London in May of that year and then to Oxford Street, London in 1781-1787 period. Measures: 231cm in height 52cm in width 25cm in depth.
