Unusual Colored Marble and Gilded Bronze Single Candelabra

About the Item

This very unusual candelabra made in France combines the elegance of the Louis XV period with the modernism so prevalent in France at the time. Constructed of a colored marble sphere set atop a gilded bronze base the sphere issuing four candle arms in the form of leaf-covered stems ending in Tulip shaped candle cups. Each stem is of a slightly different height and form making the whole look like a floral arrangement. The color of the marble is a mellow old brown cream with colored accents at the socle and at the middle of the sphere. The bronze has a well worn mellow color in keeping with the rest of the piece. Cast as a central column raised on a pyramidal pierced base. The base is centered by grotesque masks and foliate sprays raised up on feet. The shaft leads up to four large branched arms also cast with corresponding foliate sprays issuing from more grotesques. The combination of color and casting create a lively play of light.
