Pair of Antique French Louis XVI Style Gilt Bronze-Mounted Marble Cassolettes
About the Item
Each egg-shaped marble body mounted in gilt bronze and on a stand formed as masks of the young Silenus linked by garlands, and raised on three slender supports on beaded marble platform base and toupie feet. The domed cover reset upside down reveals a candle nozzle well chased with acanthus.
While 19th century, these compare favourably to the 18th century originals. The mounts are crisply cast, the marble expertly turned. To all but an expert eye they are indistinguishable from the older version.
