Rare Set of 8 Georgian George II Candlesticks 1756-1757 Candleholders

US$42,022.06per set

About

A magnificent set of 8 Antique George II Solid Silver Candlesticks. The Set features a Classic Corinthian column design with removable sconces and shaped ornate bases. This set is unusual in its completeness. Although large sets of candlesticks were common in the 18th century when these were commissioned, it is rare to have such large, complete sets in Modern Times, as most of the large suites were broken down as part of inheritance divisions etc. They are of significant size and remain in excellent condition. There are armorials and crests engraved on some of the sticks - some have two, some one and some none. Made by Thomas Heming in London in 1756 / 57 (George II) Approx. Total Weight - 4824g / 155.1oz (Silver Weight only - The bases are not loaded or weighted) Approx. Height - 34.1cm Approx. Width of Base - 16.1cm Thomas Heming was a master silversmith who's mark was first registered in 1745. In 1760 he was appointed principal silversmith to King George III, a position he held until the early 1780s. He was succeeded by his son, and the Heming Family long continued the tradition of the production of exceptional Silver items. Signed/Inscribed: Full English Hallmarks on each. STOCK CODE - CAND01 GEO01
