18th Century Pair of Italian Grand Scale Gold Gilded Pricket Sticks
About the Item
Pair of tall hand carved wood altar candlesticks, gilded using gold leaf and topped with period iron prickets. Classical period plant motifs ornamental decorations. In the lower part we find the "JHS" Christogram, derived from the first three letters of the Greek name of Jesus. The initials M. A. possibly belongs to the donor of these pricket sticks are found in a triangle surrounded by angel faces with wings.
