Martel Schwichtenberg German Bauhaus Tin Box

About

Impressed H. BAHLSEN/ KEKS-FABRIK/ AKT.-GES/ HANNOVER. Schwichtenberg's best years were in Berlin in the 1920s, where she joined the Werkbund and worked as a painter and designer. She was financially secure from her contract with Bahlsen, a large baked goods company. For Bahlsen's products and advertising campaigns, Schwichtenberg always came up with an original image, one of the best examples of corporate design in the early days of advertising art. Schwichtenberg designed this tin box for Bahlsen with a geometric design in a black, brown, red, light blue and white enamel. The Museum of Modern Art, New York has works by Schwichtenberg in its collection.
