Antique English Regency Penwork Games or Playing Card Box, circa 1820
About the Item
About as exotic and decorative as they get, this magnificent playing card or games box has a deep red or burgundy background which is smothered in the most exquisite fine penwork with plenty of gold creating an outstanding look. The box has been professionally cleaned and polished to bring out the true beauty of this English Regency gem.
The box stands on it's original gilded bronze ball feet and the original gilded bronze ring handles are both intact.
The box opens to reveal a fitted interior, the dividers being original but recovered to create a clean and fresh finish, the green velvet has been replaced in the lid too, all was too worn to keep.
Complete with a working lock and key, this box is in superb condition. Measures: 11 1/2" x 8 1/2" x 4 1/2". The cards are not period but complete the offering.
