Antique English Handcrafted Wedding or Apprentice Chest or Box with Drawer

About the Item

This early George the 3rd era and styled handcrafted wooden miniature blanket box is unsigned by presumed to have been made in England in circa 1790. The chest was possibly made as a wedding chest or as an apprentice piece, or by a skilled cabinetmaker for his child. The chest is styled as would a full sized blanket chest and has a solid wood construction with hand forged rattail hinges, and brass pulls and lock covers. The dove tailed joinery is displayed on the back of the chest and the backs of the drawer. The drawer has a parquetry rectangular border that accents the two solid brass pulls and lock cover. The early metal locks are functional, but we have yet to find a key that will work, so there's presently no key. The chest is finished on the bottom with carved period styled feet.
