Machine Age Art Deco Barbour Silver Co. "Special Line" modernist box by Albert Feinauer circa 1929, the preference chest. An important original piece of rare American modernist streamline silver design. Documented post-Weimar Feinauer silver plate pieces for Barbour are extremely difficult to source. Large hinged cedrela-wood lined cigarette chest. Jewelry box. Trinket box. Stamped Barbour 5087 22, the preference chest on bottom. Similar tag inside. Rare streamlined non-reeded version, unseen in Market or Museum collections. Modernist triple, ball clasp. Original printed paper cigarette labels absent. Very good vintage condition. The Barbour Silver Company was one of 17 plants operated by the International Silver Company (or Insilco). Known as “Factory A,” Barbour manufactured a varied line of International’s highest class of silver plated hollow-ware.   See modern expression in American silver.
