Mason's Ironstone Stand or Footed Octagonal Plate Japan Basket Pattern

$361.14Asking Price

This is a very early octagonal footed plate, dish or stand in the Japan Basket Pattern by Mason's Ironstone, Lane Delph, England, dating to circa 1815. The piece is well potted in an octagonal shape, on a raised foot with a slightly raised central section. The pattern is hand painted and gilded over-glaze with typical bold enamels over an under-glaze transfer printed outline. This pattern is one of Mason's earliest and most popular chinoiserie influenced designs called the Japan Basket, as illustrated on page 103 of a guide to Mason's patent ironstone patterns, circa 1813-1848, published by The Mason's Collectors' Club. The base carries one of the earliest impressed Mason's marks stating; patent ironstone China in a circle, dating this piece to circa 1813-1820. A good piece with many practical uses as a stand or dish or just for display.
