Antique Hand-Painted Imari Porcelain Admiral Nelson Pattern Dish England C-1810

US$775

About

Why we love it: The intensity of the Imari colors and the fabulous pink spotted lion. This shell-shaped dish is hand-painted in the Coalport Admiral Nelson pattern. It was made in England during the Regency period circa 1810. The center scene showing a vase on the garden terrace is a traditional Imari theme. But, Coalport took this traditional scene and added a whimsical pink spotted lion and a pair of green water birds. These were never seen in Japanese Imari (the pink lion is on the right side of the border, the green waterbirds are on the left). They are the distinguishing characteristics of the exquisite Coalport Admiral Nelson pattern. Dimensions: 8" length x 8.25" wide x 1.5" height Condition: Very good with some gilt touched in Price: $775 Background of English Imari: The style of 17th and 18th century Japanese Imari wares inspired several of the English porcelain manufacturers of the Regency period. Coalport and Chamberlains Worcester, in particular, produced many Imari-influenced patterns. The most popular of all was the "Admiral Nelson" pattern.
