Italian 19th Century Three-Piece Majolica Planter

About the Item

A sensational and rare Italian 19th century three-piece Majolica planter. The large-scale planter is raised by a triangular pedestal base with cut corners and decorated with a striking central palmette flanked by rich large scrolls. The central support is decorated with fluted and foliate designs and encased by three impressive and finely detailed blue herons on striking ram heads. The large bowl above is decorated with satyr faces and captivating scrolled handles, flanked by serpents. The inside of the bowl is also finished and houses the original zinc fitted insert. Wonderful vivid colors and outstanding proportions.
