A Very Fine 18th C. Irish Georgian Brass Fireplace Register Grate, Circa 1780
About the Item
A very handsome 18th century Georgian Irish fire grate / register, showing a brass surround engraved with neoclassical motifs, framing an iron basket with a triple bar grate, flanked on either side by similarly engraved brass-panelled fire cheeks topped with urn-shaped finials, surmounting an engraved and pierced brass apron.
Although apparently unsigned, this very fine and impressive example bears a number of unmistakable design elements strongly associated with two of the finest Dublin workshops of the 18th century, George Binns and S. Jn. Clarke.
