An Italian Pair of Early 19th C. Wood Doors Within Original Casing & Molding

About the Item

A pair of early 19th century Italian doors within their original carved wood casing. This fabulous piece consists of two antique Italian doors with their original casing. The surround or casing has an exquisite crosshead pediment that is heavily molded and both wider and thicker than the rest of the casing. The doors each have three carved, recessed panels on their front. The casing and door fronts have each been scraped down to their original finish, showing much of the wood grain and lovely aged remnants throughout. The door backsides are plain and have much of their original paint, which is more of a sea green color. This early 19th century Italian pair of doors with their crosshead and casing would also make a stylish and clever way of disguising a television in a living room or bed room. Overall measurements (from widest, deepest, highest perspective) are 68.5" W x 8.25" D (at top) x 101" H (total height). Overall width and depth of lower section is 61" W and 4.5" D. Measurements for interior of casing are 53.5" W x 83.75" H. The measurement from the floor to the top of the doors (not including casing) is 90.5" H.

  • Set of Four Chinese Courtyard Door Panels, c. 1850
    Located in Chicago, IL
A hallmark of Chinese architecture, tall door panels such as these were used in provincial courtyard homes to easily open up a room to the outdoors. Designed with solid wood panels instead of lattice windows, these door panels were likely installed facing the street, used to protect the home rather than provide decoration. The doors were originally linked by hinges set in opposite directions, allowing the doors to fold upon themselves as they open. Instead of the elaborate carvings often found on Qing-dynasty doors...
