Vintage Samarkand Suzani, Uzbekistan embroidered textile red and black Tashkent Suzani from Samarkand Uzbekistan, 1950. Overall good condition for its age and use some stains. "Suzani" means needlework and these embroideries are some of the most characteristic forms of textile art from Central Asia. The mastery of color and the dynamic sense of movement they convey continue to add depth and joy to contemporary interiors. A high level of creative variation and the individuation of each flower are what make each piece unique. Measures: 67.5" x 57". Fabulous antique 19th C. Suzani from Bukhara Uzbekistan embroidered with swaying floral branches and flowers. Museum quality collectible antique hand embroidered Islamic Art textile called Susani or Suzani. Very fine art work embroidered with silk thread in many shades of green were used (sacred color in Islam it is the color of Paradise), and shades of pink from light pink to red to fuchsia. The yarns are organic vegetable dyed. The piece was made in different pieces that were put together. This antique Islamic folk art piece was embroidered in the city of Bokhara, on the Silk Road. The uses are limitless however, they are often used as wall hangings, table covers, sofa cover throw, bed spreads and upholstery fabric. A similar Susani is on display at the Museum of Islamic Art in Shangri LA Doris Duke Home is Hawai. Antique Uzbek Suzani Embroidery, c. 1800 Blending naturalism with ethereal fantasy, this spectacular embroidery or ‘suzani‘ from Central Asia conveys an aesthetic consistent with older examples of the genre. Certain features, most notably the vine-scroll, are reminiscent of the Samarkand school, while the drawing of the blossoms seems more prevalent in the repertoire of neighboring Shahrisabz. Indeed, this piece may in fact be a common ancestor to both. Splendid palmettes with flame-like tracery and bold swirling star-centered blossoms alternate within the border. Vegetal scroll meanders throughout—drawn with several shades of green conveying, if not a sense of shadowing, definite and deliberate tonalities of light and dark.
