Kiyoshi Saito Limited Edition Signed Japanese Woodblock Gion in Kyoto ‘B’, 1959
US$1,949

About
A beautifully composed, rare woodblock print by famed Japanese printmaker Kiyoshi Saito. Many consider Saito to be one of the most important, if not the most important, contemporary Japanese printmakers of the 20th century. This print of a cobbled streetway and off shooting narrow alley in Gion, the entertainment district of Kyoto where Geishas and traditional Japanese tea houses are found around each corner, is titled "Gion in Kyoto (B)". The work is signed and stamped, titled, dated (1959) and numbered (41/100) by the artist. This particular image seldom surfaces and is quite rare and hard to find.
The print is nicely framed and matted.
Would be a great addition to any modern Japanese print collection or eye-catching stand-alone work.
Framed dimensions: 21" high, 26.5" wide, 1" deep
Saito's work has been exhibited extensively and can be found in galleries and museums throughout the world including:
