Large Chinese Two-Sided Painted Elm Screen Depicting Guanyin and Zhong Kui

About the Item

An antique Chinese unusual large hand painted two-sided elm divider depicting Guanyin and Zhong Kui, from the first half of the 20th century. Handcrafted in China, this large rectangular elmwood screen divider is painted with numerous colors on a primarily dark background. The first side depicts Guanyin, the bodhisattva of compassion, seated on a rock near a river. The second side represents Zhong Kui, the vanquisher of ghosts and evil beings, trampling demons. Delicate calligraphy populates the right side of the composition. With its great proportions and exquisite painted scenes, this Chinese two-sided, painted divider screen circa 1920-1930 will bring an exotic elegance to any wall.
