6-drawer cabinet of lacquer carved wood and steel from SoShiro Ainu collection

About the Item

The All Aid Wellness Cabinet from SoShiro’s Ainu collection, a collaboration between award-winning artist Toru Kaizawa and Shiro Muchiri, was initially imagined as a large-scale medicine cabinet. Its combination of exquisite craftsmanship with modern manufacturing techniques makes for a versatile storage unit in any room. Made in Italy from eco-friendly wood and steel, this grey-and-red lacquered cabinet features a utilitarian stainless-steel interior with six drawers that are colour-coded with magnetic and switchable handles and concealed ultra-smooth drawer mechanisms for optimal organisation. Its unique solid-oak handle with a Blakiston’s fish owl eyes motif was designed by celebrated Ainu sculptor Mamoru Kaizawa and beautifully carved by Ainu artisans. The Blakinston’s fish owl, a symbol of protection for the Ainu people, brings to our living spaces the epic story of their community. The Ainu collection celebrates the artistry of the indigenous Ainu people of the Japanese archipelago and their sacred relationship to forests and nature. For the Ainu, wood is considered an extraordinary material, treated with special care. Each live tree is subject to rituals that inform the sensitive harvesting of bark to make garments and other ornaments. The sculptors commune with the wood they work on and pay homage to the trees. This "All Aid" cabinet has LED lighting to illuminate the cabinet drawers - this is powered by a plug socket. Dimensions: L 45cm, W 43cm, H 141cm (17.71in x 16.92in x 55.51in).
