Breathtaking mid-1920's French couture museum-quality beaded & jeweled metallic lamé evening trained dress. The dramatic gold color palette touches a deep chord in our collective aesthetic consciousness. As fashion lovers, we never tire from antique metallics; they will always be fresh to modern eyes. It is in wonderful wearable condition; something that is becoming a rarity as time goes by. The gold fabric is even more amazing when you realize it is all hand-beaded in the much gorgeous turquoise and creme leaf motif. The prong-set jewels add another degree of charm that is irresistible. I adore the fringed cut-out shoulders and three-dimensional floral side applique. The attached duel-trains really set this garment apart of others during the period. This is one of the best 1920's pieces I have ever seen and I would not be surprised to learn that it was custom made from one of the top haute-couture Paris...

Incredible, and rare 20s B. ALTMAN Haute Couture dress! Completely hand sewn, and hand embroidered/beaded. This beauty is nothing short of exceptional! Lightweight semi sheer cotton voile looks great alone, or with a slip under. Attached beaded 'necktie' at bodice. White seed beads in a gridlock pattern scattered throughout the dress, with colorful seed beads in floral designs intertwined. Honestly, this piece belongs in a museum, but is still totally wearable, with only one small repair to one sleeve, which is unnoticeable. The House of Adair was a Parisian atelier that created beaded silk gowns for the export market during the 1920s. They were retailed in the best department stores of the day, especially in the US and UK. The designs were inspired by haute couture fashions and popular themes including orientalism and the geometric forms of the Art Deco movement. The workers has all been trained in haute couture methods and rare surviving pieces are often acquired by museums and fashion institutions including Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. This dress has a sleeveless, blouson top style v-neck and is fashioned with a lightly gathered drop-waist. This fluid, tubular tailoring was typical of the must-have dresses of this era and the silk crepe is adorned with brightly beaded flowers, among them sunflowers, thistles and gerberas. This enchanting 1920s silk chiffon floral print dress is delightfully feminine and in absolutely beautiful condition for a piece of this era. The dress has a scoop neck at both front and reverse , and features cape style sleeves with scalloped edge which float pretty over the upper arms. The peach toned silk chiffon overlay is printed with a floral design in soft blues, reds and ochre. It is fashioned with a dropped waistline atop of a full skirt falling to the ankles in soft folds with an ethereal, bohemian aesthetic. A slip in pale blue silk is sewn into the dress and shows through to complement the delicate shades of the print. Both the slip and the overlay have a run of subtle popper fastenings to the left.
