Alsace or Swiss Manufacture
Rare Quilted polychrome Indian bedspread dating from the early 19th century. Large naturalistic decoration with floral bouquets presented in large medallions framed by interlacing leaf stems. Large ratio copper plate cotton printing of seven colors, some of which are superimposed to obtain nine different tones in total. An identical canvas is listed (ref 11997) at the Musée d'Impression sur Etoffes in Mulhouse. This type of decoration can be compared to the Production of Neuchâtel in Switzerland, but also to that of Beautiran, where the famous printer Meillier came to settle after having left Switzerland. Note a small hole in the top, otherwise clean and colored. very lively. Very good general condition.
