Dries Van Noten, is a Belgium designer known for his eclectic clothing. Paired with a unique intuitive colour sensitivity, often inspired by his gardens, his fabrics are taken from the realm of the majestic and transported to ordinary life as well as pedestrian fabrics married to an elegant regal look. His fashion is at once whimsical, practical and attracts a woman’s imagination fusing the inspirational with the pragmatic. As evident in this reversible silk thread and floral brocade cotton vest, Noten appeals to a visual aesthetic sense as well as the sensation of movement. Colors of an unknown sunset, both organic as well as imaginary, we have concentric silk threads of pinks and imperial yellow, reds and apricot veiling and revealing beautiful traditional Asian inspired floral embroidery in its underpinnings. The rounded open neckline edged in a 3 inch black border flows into black lapels that fluidly continue down the length of the garment and frame the entire hem. The juxtaposition of white cotton utility as you turn your back, with a pivot of elegance as you turn to the side, is stunning with visual impact. The lapels open with a peek of the embroidery inviting you to wear the vest partially open or closed. Belted or hanging on the hinge of your shoulder, make this your own.
