1960s Jean Lang Green Cotton Floral Dress

About the Item

A fabulous lightweight cotton 1960s dress by Jean Lang. The Jean Lang Dress Company was an American fashion house founded by the designer John Lang in 1916 in Minneapolis. They produced quality manufactured garments right up unto the 1970s – this dress is from their mainline range. The abstract floral print is in very striking cool tones of greens, teal, cerise and indigo. The dress has very nice design features like the piped edging on the neckline and the same piped seam at the waist. There is a little attached decoration made of padded ribbon that has been folded behind a decorative dress clip made up of green Aurora borealis stones and small seed pearls - such wonderful details! The dress is fully lined in the same lightweight cotton. Construction wise, the dress is of excellent manufactured quality and the condition is absolutely beautiful. The only thing we noticed were one or two tiny seed pearls missing from the waist decoration but these are not at all noticeable and could easily be replaced - if I find the right size replacements, I'll pop them in. It's a good size for vintage and will be a best fit around a UK 10-12 or US 6-8. MEASUREMENTS: BUST - 38 in. (96.5 cm) WAIST - 31 in. (78.8cm) HIP - 41in (111.8cm) LENGTH - 40.5 in. (102.8 cm) SLEEVE - 7 in. (17.8cm) SHOULDER - 14.5 in (36.9cm)

    Located in London, GB
This is a great example of early unisex fashion from the revered French designer Ted Lapidus. He popularised sports utility wear and the safari suit look along with Yves Saint Laurent in the 60s and 70s. This dress is made from a richly woven linen fabric and has several notable design details including a wide lapel collar and double breasted rows of buttons with two very large front pockets. The concealed access for these pockets is in fact on the sides of the dress. The jacket has beautiful tailoring and is fully lined in a olive coloured acetate. The coat dress is in excellent vintage condition with only very minor signs of wear. There is a model number hidden within the left hand pocket. There are belt loops however the original belt is missing. We have styled it here with an original Gucci logo...
