Jay Jeffers is founder of JayJeffers Inc. and author of Collected Cool and Be Bold. He has received numerous honors including being named to Elle Décor’s A-list, and his work has been widely featured by notable shelter magazines, national newspapers, and show houses. Jay’s retail showroom, JayJeffers – THE STORE in San Francisco, offers a finely-honed collection of vintage and made-to-order home furnishings and accessories. Jay most recently designed two collections for Arteriors.

Jay and his husband, Michael Purdy, live in San Francisco and their Jeffers-designed Napa Valley getaway, “The Poolhouse,” with their two Cavalier King Charles Spaniels Olive and Kingsley.

Jeffers was brought in once the architectural design was nearly complete. “There was a need to balance out those aggressive statements with an organic feel,” he says. “We wanted it to be indoor-outdoor, contemporary modern, but not too slick.” The designer’s team brought in patterned rugs, furnishings with geometric shapes and organic, California-centric materials, with the help of the architect, to give the home texture and a sense of warmth.

At Wildhawk, whatever Lola wants, Lola gets
“I imagined Lola holding court in the back corner of the bar with her callers,” says Jay Jeffers, the space’s designer, of the bar’s muse. “Lola” is Irish dancer and entertainer Lola Montez (1821-1861), the notorious courtesan who bewitched King Ludwig I of Bavaria and eventually settled in California after fleeing the revolution she inadvertently helped trigger in the German state. Touches of exoticism and homages to Montez are everywhere, from the bar stools’ zebra upholstery to the antique curio cabinet that holds items relating to Montez’s life.
