Virginia Sevier Rogers Figurative Paintings
American, 1916-2015
Virginia Sevier Rogers studied with Hugh Breckenridge at the PAFA in 1934 and then earned a BA degree from the University of North Carolina and her MA at UC Berkeley. From the early 1940s, she was the wife of a naval officer and living in Shanghai and other places. Rogers returned to Berkeley in 1950 and had an active art career. In 1971, she moved to the Monterey Peninsula and purchased a farm on Carmel Valley Road. At her studio, Rogers taught small classes and produced paintings, batik, pottery, sculpture and a line of note cards on handmade paper.

"White Roses" is an endeavor to evoke the enchanting fragrance of roses. One of the most delightful aspects of living in Florence, Italy, is cycling through the outskirts of the city in spring after a refreshing rain shower. The rain seems to awaken the scents of various flora. I utilized Viridian Green and Cerulean Blue to capture the cool contrast that rain imparts to the flowers, seeking to encapsulate the sensory experience of those post-rain, blossoming moments.
