Sculptural Neon Torchiere Floor Lamp by Let There Be Neon for George Kovacs
By Rudi Stern and Don Chelsea
Located in Chicago, IL
A true statement. Sculptural, monolithic torchiere with a magenta neon element designed by Dan Chelsea of Let There Be Neon, founded by Rudi Stern, in collaboration with George Kovacs. A total must have for any fan of the eclectic and post-modern, the lamp warrants a comment from anyone who walks into it's space. It features two separate knobs - one controlling the neon mechanism, and the other acting as a dimmer switch for the torchiere. The torchiere takes a standard bulb. A total stand out piece, and one that acts as much of a piece of art as it does a lamp. Perfect for home or business. This lamp would make a real impact in a high end retail setting. The same lamp was recently featured in A24 production 'Uncut Gems...

Postmodern Rudi Stern Let There Be Neon Sculpture and Torchiere Lamp
By Rudi Stern, George Kovacs
Located in Brooklyn, NY
A rare find, this highly collectible neon sculpture standing torchiere lamp is by Rudi Stern who founded the New York Studio and gallery 'Let There Be Neon' in 1972 and was instrumental in the proliferation of neon as an artform in the 1970s and 1980s, executing commissions for such artists as Nam June Paik, Chryssa , Laurie Anderson, Jeff Koons, Robert Rauschenberg and Keith Haring. Most famously he is known for his neon work commissioned for the infamous Studio 54. The simple black square metal column of this piece is punctuated with an angular strip of red neon which angles its way around from one side to the other. There is also a switch for turning on a torchiere light inset at the top of the piece which exudes a white light should you wish to use it as a regular lamp to illuminate a space. This item has a regular torchiere lamp built in to the top along with the side neon sculpture light...

Neon Sculpture Cocktail Table by Rudi Stern for Let There Be Neon, circa 1976
By Rudi Stern, Let There Be Neon
Located in Los Angeles, CA
*NOTE* This is on sale during our current move. We are moving one of our locations so this item is on deep discount for a limited time. An incredibly rare find, this highly collectible neon sculpture by Rudi Stern is also a functional object - as a large coffee table or cocktail table. Stern founded the New York Studio and gallery 'Let There Be Neon' in 1972 and was instrumental in the proliferation of neon as an artform in the 1970s and 1980s, executing commissions for such artists as Nam June Paik, Chryssa, Laurie Anderson, Jeff Koons, Robert Rauschenberg and Keith Haring. Most famously he is known for his neon work which was commissioned for the infamous night time hot spot Studio 54, which this table possibly belonged to as he did not produce many furniture pieces in regular production. Later, after his death in 2006 this particular table emerged into the market to benefit his widow and now we have it offered here on 1stDibs. This coffee table consists of an illuminating sculpture set into a plexi box constructed of opaque walls and base with a clear thick glass surface where the sculpture can be clearly viewed. Four suspended rings encircle one another in the depths on the box starting with the largest at the top which leads down to the smallest closest to the base. When plugged in the rings are vivid electric blue, yellow, red and coral. By turning the room lights off the neon rings...
