Marks: One corner of each of the bases of two is stamped with the Elkington & Co trademark of a shield with a crowned E & Co, individually stamped Gothic letters E M, for Elkington Mason and co, and the date code letter P in a square standing on its corner. This date code relates to the year 1854 and all of the marks are in a line in the form of hallmarks. The other matching two are dated 1845 Each candlestick having a lift out sconce or nozzle and have a number stamped on the base of the socket of two 2756. The central petal on one side of two candlesticks have been engraved with a discreet crest of a top part of a lion holding a shield, which we believe to be that of the Ripley family. Ref 1. The heraldic description of the crest is a demi-lion rampant regardant, collared, supporting between the paws an escutcheon with chevron. *A tremendous and hard to find set of four antique Elkington and Co silver plated candlesticks in the George III style dating from the early Victorian period. Measures: Height: (an impressive) 10.25” (26cm). Width: (at base) 4.5” (11.5cm). Depth: (at base) 4.5” (11.5cm). By the 1830's they had patented their processes and 1840 saw the technique of electro-plating brought to perfection. John Culme, in his Directory of Gold and Silversmiths, said that "Elkington Electroplate was soon accepted with the result that the firm allowed a number of manufacturers to use the technique under licence. Among the earliest granted were those of Christofle & Cie of France". The firm has a worldwide reputation for hand-crafted excellence. Today, the firm is busy making bowls, jugs, trays, candlesticks, ornaments and trophies for international sporting events as well as cutlery pieces. Elegant Pair of 19th Century Gilt Brass Candelabra by Elkington & Co
By Elkington & Co.
Located in Benington, Herts
An elegant pair of gilt brass neoclassical Revival four light candelabra by Elkington and Co. English, circa 1880. The three leaf-cast scrolling branches enclosing a confirming scones above slender string stems with lappet-cast collars on compressed lead and shell-cast lion’s paw tripods and tricorn platforms. Very elegant and slender pair of candelabra in original condition with a good color to the gilt work, inspired by the ancient Roman models. Very unusual being gilt rather than the silver-plate Elkingtons are noted for. Will work in both a contemporary and traditional setting. About Elkington & Co. They one of the most important names in English silver and certainly the most important in silver plate as they invented it. They began life in Birmingham as a company of silversmiths in 1836, and experimented with improving gilding techniques. By 1838 they had discovered and patented a new way to electroplate one metal on to the surface of another. The company received financial backing from Josiah Mason in 1842 (renaming the firm Elkington, Mason & Co between 1842 and 1861) and was extremely successful. It introduced electrotyping as a new method of production for silver plated items. Elkington & Co exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851 with enormous success. They held Royal Warrants for Queen Victoria, King Edward VI, King George V, King Edward VIII and King George VI. In 1868, Queen Victoria permitted much of the royal plate...

The legendary American luxury house Tiffany & Co. is currently owned by Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton (LVMH), which completed the acquisition of the company in January, 2021. The firm started out modestly — Charles Lewis Tiffany and John B. Young founded it in Connecticut as a “stationery and fancy goods emporium” in 1837, at a time when European imports still dominated the nascent American luxury market. Upon Charles’ death in 1902, his son Louis Comfort Tiffany took over artistic direction for the brand. On 1stDibs, find authentic Tiffany & Co. pieces from some of the world's top sellers.

To tell if a Tiffany & Co. bracelet is real, first check the overall quality of the piece. Tiffany is revered all over the world, and the storied American luxury house is known for its immaculate craftsmanship and use of high-quality materials. If the accessory is 18k gold, it will be stamped with the number “750.” If it’s sterling silver, it’ll have a “925” stamp, and if it’s platinum, it will feature a “950” stamp. If the bracelet is set with any gemstones, they should be of high clarity and brilliance and evenly set. Diamonds that are selected for use in authentic Tiffany jewelry uphold GIA grading standards. Experts recommend that you work with an appraiser or jewelry industry professional on matters such as determining the authenticity of a given piece. On 1stDibs, find a collection of Tiffany & Co. bracelets from some of the world’s best sellers.
