This is an elegant antique aesthetic period burr maple and ebonized writing table, stamped 'Edwards & Roberts' circa 1870 in date. This elegant desk is crafted from the most beautiful maple with ebony banded decoration and ormolu beaded stringing. The rectangular top is inset with a gold tooled dark green leather writing surface above two frieze drawers. It is raised on elegant twin turned and fluted column supports joined by a decorative stretcher and raised on outswept legs. It is finished on all sides so that it can stand freely in the centre of your room. Complete with workig locks and key. Provenance: Collection of the late Nigel Alington, Little Barford Manor House, Bedfordshire. Condition: In really excellent condition having been beautifully cleaned, polished and waxed in our workshops, please see photos for confirmation. A fine Louis XVI Style gilt bronze and Pietre Dure mounted ebonised writing table, retailed by Edwards & Roberts. French, circa 1870. The drawer edge stamped 'Edwards & Roberts'. This Fine ebonised writing table has a three-quarter galleried superstructure with cavetto moulding above three cupboards, each with a panel door inset with Fine pietre dure panels of vases issuing flowers. The lower part of the table has a pullout / pull-out writing slide with a dark blue leather writing surface, above a long drawer centred by a tablet mounted with a foliate pietre dure panel. The table is raised on tapering square section legs united by an 'X'-frame stretcher centred by a gilt bronze vase. The beautiful Florentine pietre dure panels are inlaid in high relief with shaded agates marble, and semi-precious stones. The combination of Fine gilt bronze mounts on an ebonised ground enriched with Fine pietre dure inlay indicates the work of one of the best Parisian ébénistes of the period. Edwards & Roberts, was one of the principal London companies working in the nineteenth century in the taste of the late Eighteenth Century. They started business in 1845 and by 1854 were trading as 'Edwards & Roberts, 21 Wardour Street, Antique and Modern Cabinet Makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture'. Wimbledon-Furniture Wimbledon-Furniture is delighted to offer for sale this lovely original circa 1860 Edwards & Roberts ebonised and Walnut writing table desk Please note the delivery fee listed is just a guide, for an accurate quote please send me your postcode and I’ll price it up for you A really very good looking and exceptionally rare find, fully stamped to the right drawer EDWARDS & ROBERTS, the locks are original and again fully stamped “ Secure Lever” and then the letters VR under the crown, the crown and V.R indicate ownership by the Crown of England, Queen Victoria, expressed in Latin as "Victoria Regina". It doesn't mean it was royalty just that the patent was issued during the period of Queen Victoria. The desk is ebonised as mentioned and has stunning walnut inlay, the craftsmanship in this piece indicate to me this was made for exhibition to show off what the firm can do The desk has been deep cleaned hand condition waxed and hand polished from top to bottom, it’s in lovely period condition throughout.     Here are a few facts about Robert Indiana's artwork. His body of work helped to define various techniques and movements, including assemblage art, Pop art and hard-edge painting.

    In 1964, he created his now iconic LOVE image, including it on cards he sent to loved ones. He later turned the image into sculptures, and today, there are more than 50 of his LOVE pieces located in public spaces around the world.

    Indiana was also an accomplished printmaker and is known for a series he produced in collaboration with poet Robert Creeley. As a graphic designer, he created posters for art exhibitions and theatrical performances, such as the New York State Theater, Lincoln Center and the opening exhibition of the Hirshhorn Museum of Art. In addition, he designed costumes and sets for Virgil Thomson and Gertrude Stein's opera, The Mother of Us All.
