Mid Victorian Side Chair Finely Hand Carved with Wool Work Seat, Circa 1850
Located in Lincoln, Lincolnshire
This is a very good quality example of an English occasional side chair in the Rococo style, from the mid Victorian period, circa 1850, made from Beech. The back is a Classic balloon back shape, but with intricate cut-out and carved detail to the frame and particularly to the cross splat. This carved detail is continued on the front legs and front stretcher. The foot of the legs are splayed slightly outwards which adds to the features of this chair. Twin side stretchers give additional strength to this chair but overall this is a delicately made chair. It has a good wool-work covered seat with a rose spray design. Please note: This chair is not a strong dining room chair and is not recommended for regular use as a chair to sit on. The chair is light and would make a very pretty bedroom or hall side chair, to be used principally for display either on its own or with say teddy bears displayed on it, or for draping light...

Questions About Collinson & Lock Seating

To tell if a rocking horse is a Collinson, look at the pillar on its safety stand. Authentic pieces will usually have square pillars with wooden diamonds on top. The iron swings that allow the horse to rock were often red on genuine Collinson designs. However, an antique rocking horse may have been repainted, so the color you see might not be the original. A certified appraiser or knowledgeable antiques dealer can assist you with identifying rocking horses. Shop a range of rocking horses on 1stDibs.

They are perfect to wear as a necklace pendant or can be added as a charm on a bracelet. The Tiffany Lock bracelet works with a swiveling mechanism. To open it, find the small indentation on the bracelet and grip the piece on either side. Pull outward in both directions to swivel the bracelet open. Slip on the bracelet, pull at the notch again and slide the two ends together. On 1stDibs, find an assortment of Tiffany bracelets.

The lock on a necklace is called a fastener. One of the most well-known types is the lobster clasp, which has a curved shape and a hinged jaw that snaps in place to keep a necklace secure. Another common variety is the C clasp, which is a round fastener with a prong that you slide to open and shut the closure. Find a wide range of necklaces on 1stDibs.

The lock on a Hermès bag is to prevent anyone other than the owner from getting inside. You can use the lock to secure the closure on the handbag so that it can only be opened with one of the keys provided by Hermès. Shop a collection of Hermès bags on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
No, not all Hermès bags come with a lock and key, however, there are many styles of Hermès handbags that come with a lock and key. Each lock will have the logo engraved on the bottom, as well as a serial number that should match the engraving on the key. Shop a selection of Hermès handbags on 1stDibs.
  • 1stDibs ExpertApril 5, 2022
