Caroline Speare Rohland Art

1885-1965

Caroline Speare Rohland was born in Boston, Massachusetts on April 20, 1885. She studied at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Art Student League of New York City and with Andrew Dasburg. For a while, Rohland lived and worked at the artist colonies in Woodstock, New York, where she met her future husband, artist Paul Rohland. She had homes in New York and Sierra Madre, California until 1953. Rohland died in California in 1965. Her works are exhibited at the Rehn Gallery (New York City), 1935; Woodstock (New York) AA; the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, 1941; the New Mexico Museum of Art, 1944, 1945; the National Academy of Design, 1945, 1946 and the Sierra Madre Arts Guild, 1948. The murals include Bunkie (Los Angeles), Sylvania (Georgia), Fulton (New York) U.S. Post Offices, and at the Library of Congress; the New Mexico Museum of Art; the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York City) and the Honolulu Museum of Art.
