Arrow (Abstract Expressionist Oil Painting in Light Blue, Paynes Grey & Green)
By Jenny Nelson
Located in Hudson, NY
Square, abstract expressionist oil painting on canvas in light blue, paynes grey, periwinkle blue and green against a pale grey background with accents of peach 'Arrow' by Jenny Nelson Oil on canvas, made in 2019 30 x 30 x 2 inches unframed sturdy wooden stretcher bars, signed on reverse wire and d-rings for easy installation This square abstract expressionist oil painting was painted by Woodstock, NY based artist, Jenny Nelson, in 2019. The colorful abstract composition is completed in an expressionist style with loose and gestural brushstrokes in calming tones of light blue, payne's grey, periwinkle and green. The contrasting patches of peach and dark blue beautifully pop against the subtle pale beige-grey background. Color is applied in light layers which is noticeable in the faint yet visible under tones of the painting. The square oil painting is unframed and has sturdy wooden stretchers. The artist's signature is located on the back of the painting. Artist Statement: My work has always been anchored in drawing. I spent years drawing and painting from life. This instilled a strong sense of space and structure. At some point I became more interested in the negative space surrounding the objects I was observing and modifying the objects themselves. I began to organically develop an abstract language, but the sense of structure and organization remained constant in the painting. I apply paint in layers using palette knives, brushes and oil sticks. I initially draw loose gestures and a variety of spontaneous marks. Often traces of previous layers remain visible, allowing colors to interact in ways I could not have anticipated. This process leaves me feeling quite lost a lot of the time, and I have had to learn to become comfortable with that feeling. This sometimes builds to frustration, and I will scape off much of what was applied, but the result of doing this is often something wonderful that moves the painting forward. I view the painting process as a collaboration between myself and the materials. A conversation starts that has a beginning and an end, but everything in between is unpredictable. It seems at first some exciting things may show up but it’s important to disregard these first, too beautiful bursts, work over them, and develop something deeper from them. As the painting evolves, shapes and lines solidify, and I begin to see how the parts affect the whole. This way of layering, adding and subtracting, creates a history on the canvas. Shapes have a story to tell. Lines that have been obliterated and resurrected over and over again have an emotional charge. This process that started as a wild party ends up as a contemplative carefully edited composition, involving precise modifications, while hopefully leaving the life force in tact. Color Embossed Lithograph Print New York Abstract Expressionist Woman Artist
By Amaranth Ehrenhalt
Located in Surfside, FL
This print depicts a non-objective composition of organic shapes rendered in vibrant hues of color upon a field of a cool grey. This relief print is hand signed and titled to the lower right corner of the picture plane. From the limited edition of 50. Publishers blindstamp in lower left of sheet. (i have seen this described as a woodcut, linocut and lithograph. there is embossing. I am not sure of the exact technique.) The title is Conifer. Amaranth Roslyn Ehrenhalt (January 15, 1928) is an American painter, sculptor, and writer, who spent the majority of her career living and working in Paris, France. Ehrenhalt is one of the few abstract expressionists from the New York School of the 1950s who is still active today. She now lives and works in New York City. Born in Newark, New Jersey, Amaranth was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. As a child, she expressed a passion for art, and by the age of twelve, Amaranth was enrolled in a Saturday morning program for artistically gifted children at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, followed a few years later by art classes at Fleisher Art Memorial. Amaranth Ehrenhalt graduated from Olney High School in 1945, and went on to study for one year at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Arts (now known as the University of Arts, Philadelphia), after which, she was awarded an Honors Scholarship to the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. While attending PAFA, she simultaneously earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania studying French, English, Psychology, and Art History. From 1949-1951, Amaranth completed additional studies in Art Appreciation via the Barnes Foundation, attending classes afternoon per week. Early 1950s New York Amaranth Ehrenhalt lived in New York City during the heyday of the New York School of Abstract Expressionism. She is officially recognized as part of the second wave of American Abstract Expressionists. She socialized with Willem de Kooning and Franz Kline, among others. Her social life revolved around the Cedar Tavern on University Place. Describing life in her fourth floor Greenwich Village walk-up, Amaranth states: "I painted on the floor, not by choice a la Jackson Pollock but for lack of a table. The painter Al Held and sculptor Ronnie Bladen worked at the Door Store and, upon hearing of my predicament, carried a wooden door up four flights of stairs and plopped it on top of the bathtub. From then on, I could work at a more comfortable height." Amaranth Ehrenhalt traveled to Paris for the first time in the early 1950s, one of many moves between Paris, Philadelphia, and New York. (Amaranth has also lived in Los Angeles, Rome, and Pietrasanta, Italy). Amaranth lived and worked in France and Italy for over 30 years. "I have lived many years in Italy and France and was privileged to know, and sometimes exhibit with many writers and artists who have greatly contributed to modern art, i.e. Giacometti, Sonia Delaunay, who invited me to choose my paint supplies...

"Nature and Human Relationships – Embrace 5 – 50" Portrait Composition Painting
By Suki Maguire
Located in New York, NY
Unorthodox; yet effective, Suki treats us to a series of works that tantalizes the imagination with bold strokes of dark and light, hinting at shapes both human and ethereal and pulling us through the two-dimensional surface of the canvas into the mysterious depths of a multidimensional world. Her works resonate with strong, masculine strokes, vibrant colors, and passionate themes. The common factor is that when looking at her pieces you can spend some time letting your mind play within each painting and you'll come away with a much richer understanding of what Suki Maguire's art has to show at a simple glance. Signed on verso. Art measures 36 x 46 in There is a great potential for discovery in Maguire's world of symbols, but a passing glance will not do, you have to allow your gaze to linger on this part and that of each painting so that your subconscious will have the opportunity to retrieve the elusive forms that seem to be hiding within the more obvious shapes. This holds true even in those works that incorporate letters of the Korean or Latin alphabet, which serve as glyphs bearing some symbolic meaning that goes beyond the mere representation of sound. She has exhibited internationally in Seoul, Nantucket, New York and Italy. Her styles and materials have ranged from realism to abstract, from water and oil colors to acrylics and coffee grounds. Suki Maguire (Kim Jong...

This piece is an abstract composition done with mixed media, oil and acrylic paints on paper. The artist explores an incredible world filled with color and expressive brushstrokes. The lines and texture create a mature abstract composition as Suki Maguire has been painting in this field since the 1970s. This piece is an abstract composition done with mixed media, oil and acrylic paints on paper. The artist explores an incredible world filled with color and expressive brushstrokes. The lines and texture create a mature abstract composition as Suki Maguire has been painting in this field since the 1970s. Her joy is the expression and we can find these notes displayed vividly in this piece. This piece comes displayed in a modern light wood floating frame under glass. Art measures 9 x 6 in Frame measures 17 x 12.25 in There is a great potential for discovery in Maguire's world of symbols, but a passing glance will not do, you have to allow your gaze to linger on this part and that of each painting so that your subconscious will have the opportunity to retrieve the elusive forms that seem to be hiding within the more obvious shapes. This holds true even in those works that incorporate letters of the Korean or Latin alphabet, which serve as glyphs bearing some symbolic meaning that goes beyond the mere representation of sound. She has exhibited internationally in Seoul, Nantucket, New York, and Italy. Her styles and materials have ranged from realism to abstract, from water and oil colors to acrylics and coffee grounds. "At The Cape Cod Harbor" Colorful Mixed Media Abstract Expressionist Painting
Comes displayed in a modern light wood floater frame and is signed lower right and on verso. Art measures 28.5 x 35.75 inches Frame measures 32.25 x 39.5 inches EXHIBITION HISTORY: Lilac Gallery NYC “Art in Korea” February 18 - March 6, 2016.
