About the Item
Franco Mauro Franchi was born in Castiglioncello (Livorno) on 9 October 1951.
He completed his artistic studies at the Lucca State Institute of Art and the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence under the guidance of the sculptors Vitaliano De Angelis and Oscar Gallo, masters in its technical training. In Cecina he met the painter Sirio Bandini, in whose gallery he exhibited repeatedly establishing a relationship of deep friendship and esteem that often led them to share an intense exhibition activity and cultural initiatives starting from the years 1969-70. In 1976 he entered the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence at the school of his master Oscar Gallo and will remain there until 1989, when he won the national competition for Cattedre, taking first place. He was then assigned the Chair of Sculpture and taught for a year at the Academy of Fine Arts in Foggia, from the following year until 2000 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Bologna. In October 2000 he obtained a transfer to the Fine Arts Academy of Carrara. He has taken part in important exhibitions, such as the Rome Quadriennale, and has set up personal exhibitions in Italy and abroad, such as the Museum, Fondation Gianadda in Martigny (Switzerland), Fort Barraux Grenoble (France), Belle Usine in Fully (Switzerland) , at the Archaeological Museum of Florence, at the Villa Medicea of Cerreto Guidi (Florence), at the Casa Frabboni of San Pietro in Casale (Bologna). He performed monumental works, as the fountain in Piazza della Libertà in Cecina in 1978, for public and private spaces in Italy, Switzerland, Japan and the United States. He works with equal participation the stone and the bronze expressing a sense of the wide and solar form that aspires to represent in the predominant image of the woman, the vital force that pervades the universe.
