Linda Cunningham
Linda Cunningham, Altered Currents, Sand-Cast Bronze Natural Patina, 2016-2018

2018

About the Item

Bronze pours from salvaged military scrap form a forest of leaf-like natural elements, undulating and seeming to grow out from an unseen ground. The bronzes are formed by a gestural expression resulting from the physicality of the smelting and pouring process. The resulting highly textured reliefs evoke the delicacy of eroding leaves. Each sculptural piece is unique and impossible to duplicate just like the leaves in nature. These elements are distinguished by fluid, diagonal, curves closely related to the calligraphic drawings and torn edges in Linda Cunningham’s large format drawings and collaged canvases. Linda Cunningham is a New York City based artist who exhibits extensively both in New York and Germany, completing most recently installations with ODETTA Gallery, Bushwick, Brooklyn, 2017 2015, the Bronx Museum 2016/17, 2014 and 2010, and The American University Paris, 2017. Other recent installations were with No Longer Empty and Codex, Chelsea and recent one-person exhibitions include ODETTA, Brooklyn, NY, Abington Art Center, Philadelphia, the Fundacion Euroidiomas, Lima, Peru, Statt Museum, Cologne Germany, and the 2 x 13 Gallery, Chelsea, NYC. Her monumental public sculptural installations/ alternative memorials are permanently sited in Cologne, Kassel, Bad Hersfeld, and Cornberg, Germany, City of Sculpture, Hamilton, Ohio, Grounds for Sculpture, Hamilton, New Jersey, and Franklin and Marshall College, Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Temporary installations were formerly at the at sited at UN Plaza, New York 1997-1998, Wright State University, Dayton, Ohio, CUNY Graduate Center on 42nd St across from Bryant Park, and in Tribeca.
